Amalina gets 17 A's

JOHOR BARU - A YEAR ago, Nur Amalina Che Bakari declared publicly she was aiming to score 17 A's in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations - Malaysia's equivalent of the GCE O-levels. On Tuesday, she hit the target and set a new Malaysian academic record.

Not bad for a teenager who took seven subjects not offered by her school and who excels in extra-curricular activities. Not bad for a girl who did not rely on extra hours of private tuition like so many Malaysian students.

How about that? Her secret to success?

But why 17 subjects? 'I was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi who said, 'The measure of success is not the result but the effort'.'

The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.
